Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make sure this matches my Briggs and Stratton 795121 starter or john Deere L120 starter?
Confirm three primary factors: (1) Your engine's original part number matches one of our listed OEM numbers (e.g., if you are replacing a Briggs 691262 starter or a 393499 starter motor); (2) The drive gear counts exactly 16 teeth; (3) The rotation is Counter-Clockwise (CCW).
Why does rotation direction (CCW) matter?
Small engine starters rotate in either Clockwise (CW) or Counter-Clockwise (CCW) depending on where the starter mounts relative to the flywheel. Installing an incorrect rotation unit will prevent the starter drive bendix from engaging and may damage the flywheel.
My tractor only clicks when turning the key. Does that mean the starter is defective?
A clicking sound is most frequently caused by low battery voltage, a faulty starter solenoid, loose battery terminal cables, or corroded chassis grounding. Always load-test the 12V battery and check the starter relay before swapping the starter motor.
Should I replace or lubricate the starter drive bendix?
Do not apply heavy grease to the starter drive bendix shaft, as sticky grease attracts dirt, grass clippings, and debris, causing the drive gear to stick. A clean, dry lubricant (like dry silicone or graphite spray) should be used if needed.

Seems to be a perfect fit for my 26 year old 20 hp Briggs Intek. Weight was substantial and cranked first time. Time will tell but so far so good.

Easily installed with correct tools

Easily installed if you have the correct tooling. Worked great as soon as installed with no issue. Inexpensive but exactly what I needed. Have only had it installed for like 3 weeks so for durability it will be a test of time.

It was the right part

Installed the starter motor in my Crafsman DYS4500 with a briggs & Stratton 24 hp Intech V-twin motor and worked perfect. Also the local implement dealer in my town wanted $160 for the starter and this one cost less than $35. No brainer. Installation note: You will need a T-40 bit that is 6 inches in length to get the two mounting bolts out
